Make It a Healthy Back to School

Make It a Healthy Back to School

Did you know that children who eat healthy and nutritious foods actually perform better in school!   Studies have shown that proper nutrition improves focus, attention, cognitive function, even the ability of the brain to “cement” what it learns. Plus it’s important to instill healthy habits early on that they can carry into adult hood.

Make sure your lunch includes nutrient rich foods from several food groups with a good balance of proteins, carbohydrates and healthy fats.

Buy organic and avoid heavily processed chemically laden products.   Steer clear of too much sugar and avoid the “crash”.

A balanced lunch box should contain foods from each of the five food groups — Milk & Milk Products, Vegetables, Fruits, Grains and Meat & Beans. This gives kids the nutrients they need to prevent a drop in blood sugar for several hours and keep them going strong all day long.

Get your kids involved!  When children are included in the planning process they’ll be more  likely to eat what is prepared. Children who help select and prepare their meals are more likely to actually eat them.

Treats are OK too!  Just try to choose products that are minimally processed and contain natural ingredients.  Remember Tunie’s has been preservative free since ’93!  We take pride in knowing that every single item in our store is free of artificial ingredients, sweeteners, colorings, and preservatives.
