YOGA

Sunset Yoga at the Art Walk: The City of Coral Springs offers free yoga on Saturday nights in conjunction with the downtown Art Walk. The all-levels Hatha Yoga class is suitable for all ages. Students should bring their own yoga mat and water bottle. Registration is not required. Classes are taught by Yoga 4 Life Studio West instructor, Juliana Trejo.

FITNESS

Women’s Self Defense Seminar: Gracie Barra of Coral Springs periodically hosts free Women’s Self Defense Seminars. The one-hour program opens with a 15-minute presentation led by a member of the Margate Police Department. The following 45 minutes provide hands-on, active instruction with instructors from the Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school. The offering is part of Margate’s STARR program, a police force initiative which stands for Self-defense Tactics and Risk Reduction.

OUTDOOR RECREATION

Walking Tours of Natural Habitats: The City of Coral Springs offers free walking tours of the natural habitats maintained by the parks and recreation department. Most take place on the first Saturday of each month and begin at 9am. Tours take place at the Red Lichen Sanctuary, the Sandy Ridge Sanctuary, and Whispering Woods Park. Tour guides point out the area’s flora and fauna. Each of the sites are popular for bird watching and butterfly spotting.

Broward County Parks Events: Broward County offers several free programs and events throughout the year. The latest offerings are posted on the Park’s Department Facebook page. Past active events have included the Southeast Region State Wide Water Body Clean Up in partnership with the Marine Education Center. The annual Let’s Go Biking Event at Vista Park includes a leisurely group ride, bicycle safety for kids, and other outdoor activities.

KIDS

Flag Football Skills & Drills Clinic: Children will learn the fundamentals of flag football at this free clinic hosted by the Festival Marketplace of Pompano Beach. The three and a half hour clinic includes a free t-shirt and lunch. Experienced coaches will teach participants about safety and sportsmanship alongside skill development. Festival Marketplace, an indoor flea market, offers a variety of events throughout the year.
