Some Simple Tips to Kick Start Your Healthiest Year Yet!

Exercise is a Must!  

Hate the gym? Don’t like anything too hard-core?  Have no fear there are many choices out there and something for everyone. Take a 30-minute walk, climb some stairs, put on some great music and dance around your living room.  Just get moving! Of course here in South Florida you have wonderful options like swimming and walking on the beach all year long! Don’t forget strength training to build bone mass and some core work for a healthy back!  Pick up some light hand weights and find simple routines for weight training and core work on-line.  Aim for at least 3x a week to start and build from there!

Grab a friend or a family member and be each other’s support system. Check in daily on your progress and support each other through the challenges. Make a date to exercise and eat together. Cook a healthy tasty meal for friends and family and enjoy it together.

Shop the Perimeter!  

Make an effort to add more whole foods to your diet! Lots of fresh fruits and veggies, organic or hormone, antibiotic free meats and fish, whole grains, nuts and seeds!  Do your best to stay away from processed foods and shop organic when you  can!

Drink Water!  

No matter where you are, water should always be the first thing you reach for when you’re thirsty. Water truly is essential. Lose the soda and sugar laden drinks to cut calories and chemicals!

Keep Sugar and Caffeine to a Minimum. 

Yes that means cutting back on alcohol  and caffeine. Moderation is key! Decreasing sugar actually increases people’s energy, by minimizing the highs and lows that sweet food triggers. Different people react differently to caffeine, but most of us are probably overstimulated already — adding a stimulant just adds to stress and anxiety levels.

Try Some Alternative Therapies & Practices 

Yoga, Acupuncture, Meditation, Tai Chi, there are so many options available these days to help manage stress & pain or just generally feel better! Do a little digging and find choices in your area! Explore and experiment to see what resonates & works best for you and your lifestyle!
